The plots carved out of land provided by the federal government in 1954 and allotted to member societies have since been allotted to individual members. However, a large number of leftover members and their extended families have been demanding for allotment of plots. In order to meet their demand, Karachi Cooperative Housing Societies Union Ltd., made efforts since 1986 for allotment of additional land. The Sindh Government, through Malir Development Authority has allotted 875 acres land in Taiser Town (Scheme No. 45).
The land has been provisionally allotted to member societies according to their requirement. Allotment Certificates of land were distributed among member societies in September, 2011. A dispute cropped up between MDA and KCHS Union. KCHS Union paid 66% amount payable to MDA and demanded for physical possession of the land and a sale agreement between two parties, whereas MDA demanded for full payment. MDA filed Civil Suit in Honorable High Court for recovery of remaining amount. During the pending of the Suit, KCHS Union paid remaining amount of PKR. 429.765 million in two equal installments in February and April 2024. In the meantime a visit to the Site revealed that some area allotted to KCHS Union has been encroached upon. On the request of KCHS Union, the Honorable High Court appointed Nazir of the High Court to visit the Site and report the fact. The Nazir visited the Site in presence of all stakeholders on 9th July 2024 and submitted the report in the High Court. The case for vacant possession of the land allotted to KCHS Union is pending for decision in the High Court.
The member societies will carry out internal development work as soon as the possession of land is handed over by Malir Development Authority and land is mutated in favor of KCHS Union in revenue record. KCHS Union intends to develop 875 acres of land allotted to Karachi Cooperative Housing Societies Union Ltd in such a way to make it a model cooperative city with all required civic facilities through cooperative system. The Taiser Town project will be run through cooperative system by providing all basic civic amenities, transport, security, education, health, and recreational facilities.
